Cracked, scratched, convex or even bored … over time, your furniture is often damaged. Whether it’s a recent acquisition which has deteriorated or antique piece of furniture you want to restore, do nothing stop you! We propose to restore our tips and enjoy a second youth.
Restore a cracked cabinet
If the crack is very visible but it feels to touch:
• Put a little glue, do penetrate it and then let it dry.
• Spend a damp sponge to remove the excess.
If the crack is long and narrow:
• Run a piece of sandpaper for the crack.
• Cut a piece of metal the same thickness.
• Put glue into the crack and the plate.
• Place the piece of metal into the crack and let it dry.
If the crack is large and well visible:
• Cut a piece of wood with a triangular shape and dimensions of the crack.
• Cleanse with the help of a chisel.
• Glue the two sides.
• Carefully nail the piece of wood with the hammer until the wood “touch, basically.”Restore scratched furniture
• If your furniture is waxed, rubbed with the help of a rag and essence of turpentine or white-spirit.
• If the cabinet has a coat of varnish: do the same thing with alcohol.
• If the cabinet is walnut, about a piece of walnut gently over the scratch, work safe.
• If the cabinet is mahogany, gives an iodine paint with a fine brush and then let it dry, not to mention waxing your furniture below.
• If your furniture is made of maple, it’s a little painting of iodine, diluted previously with alcohol.
• Once dry, wax the area where the scratch was present in circular motions.
• Then the rest of the furniture wax to achieve harmonization of all dyes.
Restoring a curved cabinet
• Place a piece of cardboard in the area where the wood has swollen.
• Give a pressed on top.
• Place a weight on the card for one hour. In principle, the blister will disappear.
If not the case, there is another method:
• Click the blister with a razor blade.
• Take a little vinyl glue on the incision.
• Alisa finger blister and remove the excess glue.
Restore furniture bored
• Choose a piece of sheet of the same species as the original.
• Put it in the holes and attach it with tape around the edges.
• Cut the piece protruding from both ends.
• Cut a piece the same way that the repair site.
• Empty the plate with a chisel and added another in the cropped area.
• Try to put this piece of sheet by placing a sheet of paper underneath, cut with the same format.
• The role will have liquid smeared with glue let dry.
• Add the other piece of veneer on top.
• Squeeze it all with a brace for several minutes to soak the glue better.
And in the case of a cabinet that is not painted but is in solid wood, you only have to plug the hole of the shellac with the same dye furniture.
Restore a burn in a cabinet
Sometimes you may see burns on furniture to put on them caused by plates removed from the oven or other heating elements.
• With a grinder or a scraper, carefully remove the burned, ie, the blackened area.
• Recap below the hole with wood filler.
• Ink paste the same color as the furniture.
• Re-cover with transparent epoxy glue.
Anyone can easily do all these repairs. If the job is well done, leave your furniture in beautiful shape and no one will notice anything. The only person I know who had been damaged shall be you!
