Many times, the window hangings can be the element that ties together a room’s decoration scheme. However, for those who are unfamiliar with the idea of decorating a new home, the uncertainty about which window decoration to buy may bring their design plans to a halt. They may be unsure about which is cheaper, curtains or blinds.
In fact, window blinds often prove to be the most affordable option for window decorating. Many retailers sell these items as part of their in-store inventories. People can walk into their favourite store and purchase any number of blinds needed for their home. Further, the prices for these blinds are often low, with smaller blinds costing less than a fast food meal. With that, customers can take satisfaction in knowing that their decorating will be manageable within their budgets.
Unlike curtains, these decoration components come in materials that are easy to maintain. Blinds are often made from vinyl, metal, or even wood. These materials make it easy for people to clean them when they get dirty or gather dust. In fact, stores also sell window blind cleaning kits, which contains a duster that attracts dust and dirt from the blind’s surface. If the blind becomes heavily soiled, such as if food or drink gets spilled on it, it can be taken down from its brackets and rinsed under the bathtub faucet. It can then be re-hung to dry.
On the other hand, curtains require more maintenance that can be costly and time consuming. Most draperies are made from damask or silk. These materials cannot be submitted to a cleaning in common washing machines and dryers. To maintain curtains, people must take them down, which in itself might be a large undertaking, as most drapery sets hang from pleated hooks or rods. They then must be taken to a dry cleaner’s for professional cleaning. Some people might find dry cleaning to be expensive and not very budget friendly. With that, they may fear for their curtains’ maintenance when they host parties or have small children running around with food and drinks in their hands. Because dry cleaning can be costly, some individuals only take them in to be cleaned once a year, if that. Curtains can become dingy and make a room appear ill kept, even if the other furnishings in the room are clean.
Blinds, however, can hang by themselves without the addition of curtains. Most blinds, like Velux blinds sold today have matching valances, which give a window a whole appearance and not needing something else to complete it. If a blind happens to break or become damaged, the person can discard it and replace it inexpensively. Again, they can visit their preferred retailer, like Velux Ireland and buy a new window covering. Further, this is an option if the person changes his or her design scheme and needs a window blind in another colour.
